The new Plan Galician Research, Development and Technological Innovation 2006-2010 will guide policy research, development and innovation of the Xunta de Galicia for the next 5 years. Its purpose is to promote economic growth and social development of Galicia by improving its scientific and technological capacity, facilitate the participation of enterprises in the innovation process and bring the benefits of research to the whole of the Galician society.

The primary objectives are to achieve the business sector leadership in research efforts and encourage investment in human resources.

The Plan is structured into three core programs: horizontal, general and sectoral.

Sectoral programs are designed to promote research activities in key areas of the Galician economy, to promote applied research that can be transferred to the main sectors of the Galician economy, as well as research and technological innovation made by the Galician companies. This program is organized into five instruments:

-Transverse Critical Technologies Program: Launch of new capabilities to the development of the Galician innovation system and product diversification.

-SME Program: Support and revitalization of the innovation process and R & D in small and medium enterprises

-Sum-Program: Impact Projects developed by various players in the system, which favors the articulated strategy and commitment to research.

-Business Innovation Program: Directed to close the innovation cycle, allowing a framework for the results of R & D coming to market in the form of new products or processes.

-Outreach Program Galician Innovation System: Improving the presence of science and technology in the Galician national and international sphere.

The horizontal programs are organized in the following areas:

- Human Resources: Defining a scientific career that enables the formation and consolidation of researchers and allowed stable integration within the Galician system R & D.

- Galician Articulation System and Innovation Research : overall system structuring R & D by fostering the development of their potential.
- Communication and Social Awareness: In order to promote a culture of knowledge of science and technology among all of the Galician society.

General programs are organized:

General Research Promotion: Support for basic and general aspects of corporate R & D and scientific production as an essential element in the process of generating new knowledge.

-Estruturatión Program Consolidation and Competitive Research Unit.

-Program Result-Value: Getting the capabilities and value of public research results, with the aim of maximizing its impact, and an optimal transfer rendibilidad social and economic.
